Volare Swim Skin Noosa Triathlon

Over the weekend I had my first experience wearing the Volare Swim Skin at the Noosa Tri 2018 and let me just say I had an epic weekend.

On Friday afternoon I competed in the 1000m swim which starts at the north end of Noosa Main Beach and finishes at the Noosa Surf Club. The course is in an ‘M’ shape which means there is a small run in the middle, and running is not my forte.

At the halfway point I was sitting in fourth as I had a bit of a dodgy start, so I had to make my way through the field. By the last can I was first equal and to my dads disappointment I missed a wave and crossed the finish line second.

On Sunday I was lucky enough to have two awesome team mates Jacqui Mengler-Mohr and Christie Winmill who along with me helped smash the women’s open teams event by over 10min.

Wearing the Volare Swim Skin was a HUGE advantage. No one else in the open women’s team field had one and I came out of the water 5min before the next competitor in our event. By reducing drag and enhancing body position Volare claim that their Swim Skin can improve swim times by up to 5 seconds per 100m. I needed all the advantage I could get with the 1k run into transition and judging by my time, and how comfortable I felt in the water, I’m a believer.

The Volare team has sourced the best quality fabric and technology out there which includes features such as, Italian hydrophobic material with Teflon coated surface which reduces drag, and reduces water absorption, a YKK Locking Zipper which allows for super fast transition times and no cords required. All seams are thermo bonded with taped which means no stitching and ridge lines, which improves the hydrodynamic profile and reduces chafing.

While it took a little time to slowly inch the Swim Skin up, and the compression means that it fits tighter than my wetsuit, the advantages of wearing the swim skin make it silly to not be wearing one.

To ensure longevity and to look after my Swim Skin so it’s kept in the best possible condition for my next race. I make sure to rinse the Swim Skin in cold clean water and leave it to dry out in the shade, and away from direct heat.

Before my race, I spoke to a few other competitors about the Swim Skin and everyone raved about the speed benefits as well as the sun protection benefits. Many of them wear the Swim Skin when they are out doing their lunch time training session to help protect their skin. If you don’t have a Volare Swim Skin I would recommend adding it to your Christmas wish list.
